Regionally based MLM Consulting Engineers, is launching a Sustainability Group, a new stand-alone division dedicated to working with clients, developers, design teams and contractors to satisfy the growing number of renewable and sustainable requirements demanded from the green agenda and new legislation affecting development projects.
The Sustainability Group will focus its activities on four sectors; BREEAM, Eco-Homes/The Code of Sustainable Homes, Renewable Energy Studies and Part L Building Regulation Compliance. BREEAM, created by the Building Research Establishment (BRE), is a widely used and highly regarded environmental assessment method for buildings.

MLM Consulting Engineers is currently licensed as BREEAM assessors in three areas; office, residential and school buildings and is therefore in a unique position to advise on how to achieve sustainable development and associated BRE certification.

As well as working to satisfy the growing number of renewable and sustainable development requirements, the new MLM Sustainability Group will also be undertaking Renewable Energy studies. Here the team will evaluate whether energy options, including wind, solar, geo-thermal and biomass, considered for a particular scheme are truly viable.

The Group is also undertaking SAP/SBEM Calculations; the government standard assessment procedure for calculating the energy performance of a building, covered under Part L of the Building Regulations; ‘Conservation of Fuel and Power.’

MLM Technical Director Adrian Doling will head up the five-strong team: “This is an exciting new development for MLM and one that has been born out of our continued growth and expertise in the environmental sector. We are looking forward to working with many businesses and individuals to help them achieve their required results to meet the green agenda.”
