Viacom International’s UK headquarters is now benefitting from safer maintenance access at its studios in Camden, London, following a complete re-fit of its roof access walkways by leading providers, ECEX.
The site, which plays host to the makers of music, comedy and kids programming, required re-configuration and simplification of the access to its air handling plant, which was originally located across peaks and valleys of a ‘north light’ roof, making maintenance access across the roof slow and potentially hazardous.
Following a survey of the site, ECEX’s team of experts tendered for the provision of a system of fabricated steel walkways, access gantries, ladders and stairs which would create a continuous, safe access route to all necessary areas.
The ECEX mechanical division carried out the re-configuration of the chilled water pipework, while the fabrication department pre-assembled the pre-fabricated steelwork at ground level before craning it up to the roof in 10 metre long gantry sections. These were then fixed in-situ and laid with GRP gritted non-slip grating surfaces. Finally, the mechanical team re-instated the trace heating insulation – and all with minimal disruption to site!
The client was delighted with the project which was finished on time and on budget, as Dave Bennett, Viacom’s Director of Planning and Design, explained: “Thank you to the team that erected the steelwork and platforms.
