NIBE Energy Systems Limited has been selected to deliver the heating solution for a new standalone wellness suite at Glenapp Castle, a five-star luxury hotel on Scotland’s southwest coast, highlighting how advanced heat pump technology can be successfully integrated into heritage and high-end hospitality settings.

Located within the castle’s historic walled garden on Scotland’s southwest coast, The Nest is a new luxury suite designed around privacy, wellbeing and nature. The project demonstrates how modern heating systems can be specified in sensitive environments where performance, comfort and minimal noise are critical.

Paul Szkiler, owner of Glenapp Castle, commented: “With The Nest, we are responding to growing demand for private, wellness-led spaces that support longer stays and a more immersive experience. It allows us to enhance our guest offering while meeting the expectations of a more experience-driven traveller.”

For installers and specifiers, the project provides a strong example of how heat pump technology can be applied across a wide range of property types, including architecturally significant sites.

The system installed at Glenapp Castle delivers ultra-quiet operation alongside high levels of energy efficiency, ensuring guest comfort without compromising the tranquillity of the surrounding environment. This is particularly important in hospitality and residential settings where acoustic performance is a key consideration.

Paul Smith, managing director of NIBE Energy Systems Limited, said: “Projects like Glenapp Castle demonstrate that heat pumps can be specified in even the most design-sensitive and heritage environments without compromise. For installers, success comes down to correct system design, accurate heat loss calculations and selecting the right technology for the building. When those fundamentals are in place, heat pumps can deliver exceptional performance in any property type.”

The Nest incorporates a range of wellness-focused features including a private sauna, cold plunge tub and outdoor terrace, requiring a heating solution that supports both comfort and consistency across varying demands. NIBE’s system was selected to meet these requirements while maintaining low noise levels and high efficiency.

The project also reflects a broader trend across both hospitality and residential sectors, where there is increasing demand for heating solutions that combine performance with energy efficiency, while remaining suitable for retrofit applications.

As installers continue to work across diverse building types, from listed properties to modern developments, projects such as Glenapp Castle reinforce the importance of system design, integration and product selection in delivering successful heat pump installations.
