Wirral Met College’s objective is to enhance the economic prosperity of young people, adults and employers through high quality, work-related education and training.

R&M Joinery Manufacturers have a long history of developing staff through training on the job and  are working with the College to offer the joinery experts of tomorrow the opportunity to work with their highly qualified team to develop their on the job and workplace skills.

This is in the form of two programmes. The first is a rolling work placement whereby joinery students from the College will rotate on a week-by-week basis allowing all students an initial set of experience in the real working environment they aspire to become part of when they qualify.

The second programme R&M Joinery are working with the College to support is their Traineeship programme. Here, people who are not ready for work just yet take part in an 8-10 week placement which commences with 4 weeks in the College working through employability training such as cv creation, how to behave in work and interview skills. The remaining 4-6 weeks are spent at R&M Joinery as a member of the team, to put their learning into real life context.

When Wirral Met approached me about being involved in supporting the College, I couldn’t say no. It not only aligns with our company values, but is also an opportunity to potentially employ our next apprentice at the end of the placement. I’d encourage more Wirral businesses to get involved.”
