A new enhanced version of the software tool SBEM has just been unveiled by BRE. The tool which calculates the energy usage and carbon emissions for all non-domestic buildings will enable designers, developers and suppliers to demonstrate compliance with the revised Part L of the Building Regulations which takes effect this October across England and Wales.

Now in its fourth version, the revised SBEM implements a number of technical enhancements to the calculation procedures, but also generates the target emission rate according to the new 2010 methodology.

The new tool and associated documentation, which is produced by BRE on behalf of Communities and Local Government (CLG), is available to download now from: www.2010ncm.bre.co.uk.
