New acoustic test facility at BSRIA

BSRIA has completed its new acoustic chamber for testing of airborne noise of space heating and cooling products. Acoustic testing is a requirement of the EN 14511 and some incentive and quality schemes that call upon EN 12102:2008 for sound power measurement. This applies to heat pumps, air conditioners, fan coils, liquid chilling packages, dehumidifiers, and other space heating/cooling products.

The new reverberation chamber has an added facility to simultaneously measure thermal performance of products that will help manufacturers simplify and speed-up the test process.

Rebecca Hogg, Acoustic Consultant at BSRIA, comments: “Our specialist conditioning units allow us to fully control the temperature and humidity of the facility and therefore we are able to replicate a range of typical real-life operational situations not only in accordance to EN 12102:2008, ISO 3741 and ISO 3743 standards but also for specific requirements. The flexibility of the testing facility allows us to meet the specific needs of each individual client and supply them with reliable and relevant data, which in turn enables them to accurately inform their customers about the acoustic performance of their equipment.”
