By David Barrett, chief executive, The Electric Heating Company
As The Electric Heating Company (EHC) celebrates 20 years of innovation in electric heating, we find ourselves at a pivotal moment—not just for our business, but for the future of heating in the UK. The transition to low-carbon technologies is no longer a distant goal; it’s a present-day imperative. And at EHC, we’re proud to be leading the charge with a bold expansion into the commercial heating sector.
For two decades, EHC has been synonymous with high-performance electric heating solutions for domestic applications. From our trusted Comet and SlimJim boilers to new our All-in-One boiler and cylinder systems, we’ve built a reputation for reliability, efficiency, and installer-friendly design. But as the demand for sustainable heating grows across larger buildings and commercial applications, we recognised the increasing demand for commercial electric boilers as an alternative to gas commercial boilers.
That’s why we’ve launched a new dedicated commercial boiler range—engineered to meet the complex demands of schools, hotels, offices, industrial sites, and large residential developments. At the heart of this offering are two flagship products: Voltius and Valerius.
Voltius: High-Powered, High-Performance
The Voltius range, introduced earlier this year is a range of wall mounted commercial boilers. Available in 60kW, 80kW, and 100kW models, Voltius is designed for high-demand environments where robust performance and scalability are essential.
Voltius units are wall-mounted, compact, and fully modulating, offering precise control and energy efficiency. They’re compatible with Building Management Systems (BMS), making them ideal for integration into smart buildings. With cascade capability, multiple Voltius boilers can be linked to deliver consistent heating across large spaces, while load balancing ensures optimal performance and longevity.
Installers have praised Voltius for its straightforward setup and intuitive controls. Architects appreciate its space-saving design, and property managers value its reliability and low maintenance requirements. It’s a boiler built for professionals—by professionals.
Valerius: Floor-Standing Power with Intelligent Control
Building on the success of Voltius, we’re proud to unveil Valerius, our latest addition to the commercial range. Valerius is a floor-standing electric boiler designed specifically for plant rooms and commercial environments where space, control, and scalability are critical.
Available in multiple outputs, Valerius features DN65 (2½”) PN16 flange connections for fast, professional installation. It supports cascade operation of up to ten units via an intelligent controller that balances load across the system, maximising efficiency and extending product lifespan.
Valerius is compatible with BMS and offers outdoor temperature compensation, ensuring responsive heating that adapts to real-world conditions. Whether installed in a school, hotel, office block, or industrial facility, Valerius delivers consistent, clean, and quiet heating—without the need for flues, fuel tanks, or emissions.
As I often say, “Valerius is more than a boiler—it’s a commercial heating solution.” It’s the result of listening to installers, consulting with architects, and understanding the operational needs of property managers. Every detail, from the footprint to the control interface, has been designed with professionals in mind.
Why Electric? Why Now?
The UK’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050 has accelerated the shift away from fossil fuels. Gas boilers, once the default choice for commercial heating, are increasingly being phased out in favour of electric alternatives. And for good reason.
Electric boilers offer near-total energy conversion, meaning almost all the electricity used is turned into heat. They’re quiet, clean, and require minimal maintenance. There are no emissions, no flue systems, and no fuel deliveries. For commercial buildings aiming to reduce their carbon footprint, electric heating is not just viable—it’s essential.
At EHC, we’ve always believed in the power of electric. But entering the commercial segment required more than belief—it demanded innovation. With Voltius and Valerius, we’ve delivered products that meet the technical, spatial, and operational needs of modern commercial buildings.
Designed for Professionals
One of the key principles behind our commercial range is professional-first design. We know that installers need products that are easy to fit, configure, and maintain. Architects need systems that integrate seamlessly into building layouts. Property managers need reliability, efficiency, and control.
That’s why both Voltius and Valerius feature:
– Cascade capability for scalable heating
– BMS integration for smart building control
– Modulating operation for energy efficiency
– Compact footprints for flexible installation
– Quiet, emission-free performance for sensitive environments
We’ve also invested in training resources and technical support to help professionals specify, install, and manage our commercial boilers with confidence.
Looking Ahead
As we mark our 20th anniversary, we’re not just reflecting on the past—we’re building for the future. The commercial heating sector is evolving rapidly, and EHC is committed to staying ahead of the curve.
In the words of our team: “We’re not just entering the commercial market—we’re reshaping it.”
Final Thoughts
The launch of Voltius and Valerius marks a new chapter for The Electric Heating Company. It’s a chapter defined by innovation, collaboration, and a deep commitment to sustainability.
To installers, architects, and property managers across the UK: we invite you to explore our commercial range and see how electric heating can transform your projects. Whether you’re retrofitting an office block, designing a new school, or managing a hotel estate, EHC has the solution.
