ABB has signed a deal with Nuaire Ltd to supply variable speed drives for its range of fans.

Nuaire, based in South Wales, manufactures the largest range of ventilation products and air handling units in the UK. This will now be complimented by ABB standard drives and ABB standard drives for HVAC which are available in power ratings from 0.75 to 90kW, with larger drives available on request.

The ABB variable speed drives (VSDs) will form an integral part of the company’s Ecosmart control range, which links fans, drives and condition sensors into a ventilation system that supplies air to meet the real time demand thus saving money by cutting energy use.

Nuaire sees the controllability of its fans as one of the most important factors in maintaining its growth in applications such as schools, offices and healthcare, and regards the ABB drives as a positive addition to their already successful Ecosmart control range.

The ABB drives also allow Nuaire to customise the drive to the needs of individual customers. The ABB FlashDrop tool, a hand held device, can set parameters and copy configurations between drives, without even powering up the drive. Nuaire can offer a pre-programmed customised service on short lead-times, using the FlashDrop to programme the drive without even removing it from its packaging.

Steve Ruddell, General Manager, drives and motors for ABB, says: “Nuaire is a major blue chip OEM and this deal will enhance our already leading position in the HVAC market. ABB understands the needs of OEMs and can supply the reliable drives that Nuaire need.”

On site training provided by experienced ABB personnel to Nuaire staff gave production engineers, development engineers, production staff and site service engineers a good grounding in working with the ABB drives in order to continue to provide a high level of service and support to existing and new customers.
