A record breaking event

The Little Britain Challenge Cup, the largest annual property and construction yachting regatta in Europe, took to the main stage at the Whyte & Mackay Earls Court Boat Show to present cheques worth £127,000 to its nominated charities and representatives.
The money was presented to:

  • The Ellen MacArthur Trust (EMT), represented by charity Patron Olympic Gold Medallist Shirley Robertson
  • Cirdan Sailing Trust (CST), represented by Olympic Gold Medallist Shirley Robertson and CST Chief Executive Nick Back
  • Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST), represented by Olympic Gold Medallist Sarah Webb (JST Vice Patron)
  • Skandia Team GBR Paralympic Sailing Team, represented by Jackie Gay (SKUD-18), Hannah Stodel (Sonar) and Helena Lucas (2.4mR)

The 2007 event proved to be record-breaking for Little Britain with the September regatta raising in excess of £150,000 and welcoming 47 new companies, taking the total number of attendees to over 3,000.
Speaking at the presentation, the 2008 Little Britain Chairman Sarah Ashworth said: “It takes enormous effort to make Little Britain a success so it is very rewarding to see the results of our efforts improve the lives of many young, disadvantaged and disabled people. We hope our 21st anniversary event in 2008 will be our most successful yet.”
