Daikin’s VRV 5 Heat Recovery climate control systems was purpose-built to ensure the demands of modern buildings are met, whilst also reducing its impact on the environment, actively promoting decarbonisation. In the UK, heating and powering buildings is responsible for 40% of the UK’s total energy use, a figure which must reduce if the nation is achieve its net zero goal by 2050.
A firm balance must be struck to support the effective decarbonisation of buildings without compromising on user comfort and creating healthy environments. Daikin’s VRV 5 R32 Heat Recovery system was designed and built with this in mind, and the solution includes the latest evolution of VRV, or Variable Refrigerant Volume, which was first developed over 40 years ago by Daikin. VRV places a focus on reduction of both direct and indirect environmental impacts, while offering unmatched simplicity and versatility in design and installation.
Sustainability and efficiency
The design goal for the VRV 5 Heat Recovery system was to ensure that the overall operational efficiency of the system was maximised in real-world conditions. The results of the system certainly illustrate the achievement of this goal, with market-leading performance and a 13% increase in seasonal efficiency when compared to the previous R140A generation. Additionally, Daikin’s VRV systems are traditional Direct Expansion (DX) systems, only using refrigerant as the medium to transfer energy. Having pioneered this technology, we do not need to compromise and create hybrid solutions.
VRV 5 Heat Recovery has been specifically engineered for the lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerant R-32. The GWP of R-32 is just one-third of that of R-410A and also carries heat more effectively, together leading to up to a 71% reduction in the system’s potential direct carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2eq) emissions. R-32 is also a single component refrigerant, which supports the circular economy as it is easy to recover and recycle.
System management and control
Daikin’s bespoke Shîrudo Technology enables complete autonomy with the ability to integrate climate control into small rooms and spaces, without the need for any other hardware or equipment to facilitate it for complete management and control.
Included within the Shîrudo Technology are two factory-integrated refrigerant control measures, and in the unlikely event of a refrigerant leak, it will be detected instantly, and the section of the system will be isolated. These inbuilt safety features will ultimately minimise the refrigerant that can leak and will ensure that affected areas will be shut down to prevent any damage and means only the units in the affected part of the system will be shut down, while the rest of the system will remain fully operational, minimising the risk of downtime This combined with easy validation via Daikin’s Xpress software, means Daikin guarantees compliance with the specific IEC60335-2-40 (ed 7) product standard straight from the box.
Smart climate control
A critical aspect to the VRV 5 Heat Recovery system is the ease of use for the end user, and of course, individual comfort. The super-efficient 3-pipe recovery system is integrated into the system, allowing for simultaneous heating and cooling, delivering superior comfort throughout. Furthermore, the system provides virtually free heating with the transfer of heat through the system from around the building. Daikin’s mini–Building Management System, the intelligent Touch Manager, enables both local and remote cloud-based control, allowing business managers to control and monitor the BMS from any location via the Internet, Intranet or touchscreen.
Inbuilt flexibility
In the greater bid for decarbonisation, innovation must be placed at the forefront of all efforts, particularly regarding climate control systems that can be installed and used for a variety of applications. Daikin’s VRV 5 Heat Recovery system provides the best-in-class design and installation flexibility, with an extensive temperature range of up to +46°C in heating and down to -20°C in cooling, while also offering the widest outdoor unit range on the market with capacities reaching 80kW in cooling and 90kW in heating.
To ensure the outdoor unit can be installed with ducting to the exterior, in small spaces or behind grilles, it has been designed to deliver an external static pressure (ESP) of up to 78 Pascals (Pa). The unit also features five low sound steps down to 40 db(A) in sound pressure to allow for installation in accordance with urban planning requirements. The VRV 5 Heat Recovery system allows the same long piping runs as the current VRV range and in even smaller pipe diameters, further reducing the required installation space.
Effective decarbonisation of buildings must now be a priority. A combination of performance developments and technologies means that Daikin’s VRV 5 Heat Recovery is the ideal solution for projects where environmental impact is a priority, including those aiming to achieve BREEAM, LEED or WELL accreditation.
The Daikin VRV 5 Heat Recovery units will be available from the second half of November 2022. For more information visit https://www.daikin.co.uk/VRV5HR
